Somalian Pirates

Apparently this pirate issue is a very large one that's growing.

Most issues so far seem to be in Somalia. The hijacking of the ship with the Russian tanks from Ukraine is now being held for ransom for $35 million and was taken by a crew of Somalian pirates. They also took an Egyptian ship not too long ago and held the crew for hostage (whether it's the same exact pirates, I don't know, they're all just kinda being generalized as Somalian pirates). 30 ships taken this year.

I don't totally ...

Georgia Conflict's Causes

According to an article on CNN.com from August 14th, the previous president of the Soviet Union (who still calls himself president which gets confusing) Mikhail Gorbachev believes that Georgia started the conflict between Georgia and Russia by attacking a small town in S. Ossetia. The president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili says that Russian separatists attacked and killed innocent Georgian civilians and started the conflict. I've heard that Georgia attacked S. Ossetia and Russia attacked Georgia ...

Congo and UN intervening

As most people probably know, the Congo has been having some issues in Africa. A lot of it is supposedly caused by the fact that they have great mining potential. The problem is that the tribes tend to war over who has the rights to mine and sell the minerals.

Currently, a rebel leader, Nkunda, is almost invading the Congo because the government hasn't been treating the Tutsis fairly. He's got an army that's been slowly advancing towards a city named Goma which is the main focus of this ...

Ukraine, Russia, Kenya, United States? Pirates??

Whadya know? A Russia-Ukraine issue, and... for some reason... the United States?

Apparently pirates are roaming the seas. A Ukrainian ship was carrying Russian tanks today and they were hijacked by... well pirates; and for some reason, the United States was there saying they were worried about high-sea terrorism.

I'm finding this a little too interconnected. Ukraine was one of the ones who, well didn't necessarily support Russia in the Georgia conflict, but they weren't demonizing ...

German Mosque

Ahmadiyya is a group of religious people that call themselves a sect of the Muslim faith. They have a large number of people living in Germany and have set a goal of building 100 mosques in the country. During the process of building the first mosque, Germans have actually began protesting it.

I'm sure a lot of people automatically turn to the idea of Nazi Germany trying to oppress the Muslim religion, but that's not true.

Apparently, they believe that this particular sect has harbored ill ...
