Kazakhstan is also having trouble with their economy. The government claims it's due to the global crisis, but I doubt their government could even define the global crisis since it doesn't seem like any country can. Every country that is having financial issues is blaming it on this "global crisis" that is only actually hurting half of the world. The Kazakh government claims it's the global crisis and a party within the country claims it's the government. Another tag game that may be ...

Apparently this pirate issue is a very large one that's growing.

Most issues so far seem to be in Somalia. The hijacking of the ship with the Russian tanks from Ukraine is now being held for ransom for $35 million and was taken by a crew of Somalian pirates. They also took an Egyptian ship not too long ago and held the crew for hostage (whether it's the same exact pirates, I don't know, they're all just kinda being generalized as Somalian pirates). 30 ships taken this year.

I don't totally ...

The way the world economy has been functioning for the past 20 years is going to be torn apart within the next 10!!!! It's just so amazing to be able to actually see these changes occur. How exciting is it to be able to witness an entire half of the world come into its own in your lifetime? In my lifetime, China, and probably its surrounding countries are going to become what we are now. No doubt about it. China's unspoken trade alliance with Brazil will skyrocket Brazil up with all of ...

I found an article from CNNMoney.com that stated that we have had the largest amount of layoffs since 9/11.

I am going to use this as an example of the problems that come with word choice and mass panic. Looking at that makes you think that our economy is doing extremely terribly and that people are desperate and out of money more so than ever before. That's generally the idea of the United States economy today, which is an extreme over-exaggeration.

The reason this is a problem is ...

As most people probably know, the Congo has been having some issues in Africa. A lot of it is supposedly caused by the fact that they have great mining potential. The problem is that the tribes tend to war over who has the rights to mine and sell the minerals.

Currently, a rebel leader, Nkunda, is almost invading the Congo because the government hasn't been treating the Tutsis fairly. He's got an army that's been slowly advancing towards a city named Goma which is the main focus of this ...

China has been making a great effort to get the western part of the world back on its feet. Their exports are key to their economy and if the west stops buying from China, they may come into some issues. As you may have noticed, I don't think that China is still 100% reliant on the west considering recent pacts with Brazil, India, Russia, and South Africa, but I don't think they're quite ready to totally give up a lucrative deal.

However, as China tries to help the West get back on its ...

Apparently pirates are roaming the seas. A Ukrainian ship was carrying Russian tanks today and they were hijacked by... well pirates; and for some reason, the United States was there saying they were worried about high-sea terrorism.

I'm finding this a little too interconnected. Ukraine was one of the ones who, well didn't necessarily support Russia in the Georgia conflict, but they weren't demonizing ...

I just read an interesting article about the global financial crisis. As you may have heard, it's not quite hitting Asia as hard as it is Europe and the States. However, it's indirectly hurting a lot of larger Asian countries because exports are so key to their economy, much like any pro-globalization countries these days. Because money is getting tight for Europe and the States, they're buying less and can't support a massive amount of exports.

What's interesting is that China has made ...

One, is that it didn't do anything for anyone except Asia. Europe and the United States continued to have their stock markets drop, even though the both the US and England have pledged some money ($700 billion -us $250 billion -uk) to save these banks from falling (all 3 of them ).

It began with the housing market.

In the mid to late 90's the housing market was going up, the value of houses was rising.

So, everyone wanted to purchase one. However, not everyone could. Rates were too high on traditional mortgages and anyone with a credit score of under 600 couldn't take one out. To meet the demand, lending companies employed introductory interest rates and subprime mortgages. Subprime mortgages allowed people with low credit scores ...

The United States' Coup D'Etats

I want to use this example to show you how important it is to look at an issue objectively.

The United States manipulates elections all over the world. "Manipulate" is used by those who support the old regimes, "democratic development" is used by the United States. Same issue, two totally different outlooks that insinuate two totally different actions. Objectivity is key in this. I hope I can be as objective as possible, but I can't guarantee it. When reading this, try ...

Venezuela - Chavez Paranoid?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/09/11/venezuela.us/index.html

I read an article on CNN.com about Chavez's report to kick out our ambassador and withdraw his from the United States. Bolivia is having political issues with us and Venezuela, its ally, is supporting it. I think that's acceptable, I mean, look at the Georgia issue. We are blindly supporting Georgia against Russia even though they are the aggressors. We've threatened Russia with military force. This is what Venezuela is ...

I don't really know anything about Sara Palin (sp??). I'll have to look her up. I do have a theory though...

Originally, the excitement with the democrats seemed to be because we would either have the first woman candidate, or the first black candidate. Now... We'll either have the first black president, or the first female vice president. When Hillary and Obama were competing this was a big deal. Now, everyone's just like "Sara Palin the family woman" and don't even seem to realize ...

I actually did a small paper on BRICS for class last year. I've learned some more information since that has confused me a little.

It's questionable as to whether BRICs/BRICS is a legitimately formed trading bloc, or just an arbitrary name given to the emergin nations as separate countries. Some American economists take credit for the name as simply that: a name. However, when I did my paper I took to be a serious trading bloc like that of the EU. I found out that these countries are working ...

It seems that agriculture is a very interested industry in world trade. It is the most nationally defended one in any country. Most western countries subsidize their agriculture through subsidizing farmers for their crops and livestock. I know for a fact that the United States does based on information from globalpolicy.org, and I know that the United Kingdom does based on a class I took about International Economics. England even refused to join the European Union if they did not let them keep ...

I know very well that you can't physically scream on a forum that is purely text. However, if you are getting angry and feeling as though you should be screaming, it comes through in your posting: bolded words, italics, caps lock, a large amount of errors, a lot of short words, fast flow, !!!!!!!!!!, !?!?!?, #@!$#, etc, etc, etc. People will know.

This, generally means that you have taken something personally. If someone has made a personal attack that is obviously meant offensively to you, ...

The globalization argument is one that I doubt will ever be agreed on. There's the morality argument, the argument for peace and tolerance, the argument for freedom, the argument for neo-colonization, and the argument for isolationism.

The most difficult thing about this issue, however, is how abstract it actually is. All arguments are based on stereotypes and theory. While these theories are very well explained, they're not fact, and have not been proven or even disproven.

Biden was recently named as running mate with Barrack Obama for the presidential elections this year. I've heard many people complaining about how terrible a decision it was to make him a running mate, however when I asked why, or where he stands on some issues, they say "I don't know" (an unfortunate trend in American society ). So I looked him up.

I have designed this forum hoping to find others who think politics and economics are as interesting as I do. As I'm sure you may know, most people think these topics aren't any of their concerns and should be left to politicians and world leaders to deal with. However, if no one is educated, or even interested in what is going on in the world beyond MTV, we end up with societies that vote in elections based on popularity and personal sex lives rather than what these people can really do for ...
