Poisoned Chinese Dairy
Apparently Chinese dairy is claimed to have been found with melamine, a compound used to make plastics. Since it's got a lot of nitrogen, it's used by some companies to fake the appearance of protein in something that may have been watered down.
The scare is just that, a scare. Three children (1-2 years old) have died from melamine in their baby formula. It causes kidney stones and renal failure. What confuses me, though, is that one of the mothers ended up with kidney stones at the same time as her child. That leads me to believe that maybe... it's not the formula. However, so many companies are recalling their products, it seems like it's a complete disaster. But at the same time, there was an article that says it hasn't actually been proven yet (as of Sep. 26th) that any of the products have the melamine. I guess it's the same in the states, cry wolf and everyone will run without looking, just to make absolutely positive they won't get sued. Just in case ...?
However, the US is taking wing with it. Suddenly, it's a communism issue.... I don't even want to know how they're linking it up.... I think one of the administrators was a member of the communist party... but the idea of deregulation that would allow these companies to do this in the first place is purely capitalist. But hey, what would I know....
This is going to kill China's reputation. Last year a couple flavors of gerber were recalled because the factories in China ended up adding something in it. What I want people to realize is that the companies making these terrible decisions are run by Westerners: Hershey's, Cadbury, Oreo, etc etc. So please don't let it become an anti-Asia scheme.
This is going to make trade difficult... We'll see what happens to their food production exports...
Either way... Yes, this is an issue. I'm worried that it might be something that isn't the formula... If that's the case, then by the time they realize it, hundreds of people will have died because they were so worried about unproven dairy.
(I will try to look up how many adults have gotten sick with the same symptoms)
